Sicily Sicily in Film, TV & Literature

The manyfold landscapes, picturesque villages, Baroque towns and cities like Palermo and Catania as well as the lovable, but sometimes wayward and strange islanders have always inspired writers, painters and film and TV producers to masterpieces.

On this page you will find museums, favourite places and the homes of Sicilian writers - and the places they wrote about. You will find shooting spots of film and television, such as Ocean's Twelve, Stromboli, The Big Blue, The Postman, The Godfather (only to name some of them) and the Inspector Montalbano series. For fans of Andrea Camilleri we would like to point out that the scenes in his books are different than in the TV episodes. The scenes in his books are often not very attracting, so the producer chose more telegenic places like Scicli and Ragusa-Ibla. To make your planning easier we also listed accommodations in or near the shooting spots - with a little luck you will overnight in the room where your favourite movie star stayed during the film making.
