Castello di Donnafugata, which dates back to 17th century, in reality is not a castle, but a palatial mansion which boasts 122 beautiful rooms and is surrounded by 12 acres of well kept gardens where a great stone-walled maze can be found along with carob, almond and olive trees.
This romantic castle with its white facade has featured in many famous movies, including The Leopard, Il Vicerè'and the Inspector Montalbano series, as the home of the Mafia boss Balducci..
The splendid interior has still the original furnishings, spectacular chandeliers, the 'Bishop's apartment', amusic room, walls in trompe l'oeil, the Heraldic room, and there is also a billiard room, ladies room and smoking room for gentlemen. Unfortunately no cameras allowed.
