DescriptionBegin your walking tour from Piazza Stesicoro at 9:30 am and jump aboard the subway to reach the first stop of the tour, San Giovanni Li Cuti. Explore this quaint fisherman village and the east part of the city and marvel at its black sand beach which exists as a result of the volcanic eruptions and lava flow that once occurred there. While at the seaside, enjoy a Sicilian breakfast of granita and Sicilian brioche. Next, return back to Piazza Stesicoro, where you will enjoy a lovely walking tour and receive historical overview of the city, the alleys, and the squares of the old town. Stop to admire the Duomo Square, where you can take photos with the symbol of Catania and visit the Duomo church. From here, head to the quaint fish market, better known as “la pescheria”, where you will taste local cheeses, olives, and some exquisiteness in oil. Then, stop to see the view from the outside of the Castello Ursino, a fortress built between 1239 and 1250 by the architect Riccardo da Lentini and wanted by Frederick II of Swabia. Here, enjoy a tasting of typical Sicilian street food consisting of arancini, a small pizza, cipollina, and cartocciata. Then, head to one of the finest kiosks of Catania where you can quench your thirst with a traditional fizzy drink made from fresh Selz and syrups.
