Noto, Modica and Ragusa: The Baroque Tour from Catania
127 ReviewsDiscover the heart of Sicily of the late Baroque period. Rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1693 it is part of UNESCO's World Heritage.
The exhibition items came to light between the years 1977 and 1984 during excavations made in Monte Castellazzo and in Balate - Valle Oscura by the Superintendency of Agrigento. The museum displays Neolithic, Aeneolithic and Bronze Age fragments of pottery, as well as the typical and prevailing local pottery production dated back to the archaic period, which used to apply to Greek shapes, such as oinochoai and krateriskoi, geometrical or naturalistic patterns, such as birds with fanned tails, arranged in long parade or faced in heraldic position.
The arrangement follows topographical criteria. According to the different places of origin, the finds are exhibited in chronological order.
