Religious buildings are scattered throughout the Madonie Mountains: abbeys, convents, sanctuaries, monasteries and rupestral churches, but the sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Alto, dating back to the 14th century, is worth a mention, as it is a destination for religious tourism for people from the adjacent villages and small towns. THe sanctuary is situated on a height of 1,819 m and barefooted pilgrims come here several times a year.
Non religious tourists come here for the magnificent landscape, the healthy air and the wonderful panoramic views over the mountains and Sicily.
It is a popular spot for the inhabitants of Palermo and Cefalù in summer.
