Museo degli Strumenti etnico-musicali
Sicily
Some of the rare artifacts, sometimes hard to find and therefore unique, because they come from countries where the state is not allowed an entry visa, such as Tibet, are two beautifully inlaid flutes and a membranophone which uses human skullcaps as a sounding board. The uniqueness of specimens is indicative of the intrinsic value of the collection.
There is a significant number of ethnic and tribal instruments from remote areas of Central Africa, Asia, the Americas, and in particular of Papua New Guinea - an interesting collection of Zanze (idiophones) and other pieces from Kenya, Rhodesia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, three beautiful Argentine Charangosi, Balalaikas from Slavic countries, a Birimbao from Brazil, three Indian sytars, and hundreds of other examples.
A large colored map of the world, covering a wall at the entrance, greets the visitor.
