You'll admire the magnificence of the Cave of the Nymphaeum and the Altar of Hieron before reaching the imposing Roman Amphitheater, where gladiator fights and plays by the classics took place. From here-independently-you'll venture to the enchanting island of Ortigia, the beating heart of Syracuse's civilization, where art and culture come together in unique harmony. Your Walking Tour of Ortigia will begin at the Temple of Apollo, dating back to the 6th century B.C., and will take you to discover the historic Church of San Filippo Apostolo, Piazza Archimede and Piazza Duomo and the Cathedral.
