Villa Niscemi
Sicily
Villa Niscemi, nowadays the representative office of the Mayor of Palermo, is a former residential villa built on three levels, with a courtyard and two wings covered as terraces. The interior, filled with cherished furnishings and works of art, are well cared for and kept in a commendable way. Worth visiting are the large halls in the sequence of the main floor, in particular the Hall of Santa Rosalia, where you can appreciate the beautiful trompe l'oeil wall paintings and frescoes. Equally interesting is the library, which contains 4,000 volumes. The park with its fountain (and some lovely ducks), is very wide and beautiful. The artistic and cultural value of Villa Niscemi is truly remarkable. Historical note: the last tenants, Prince Corrado and his wife Maria inspired the characters Tancredi and Angelica in The Leopard.
