Scicli
Sicily
Scicli is located in the southeast of Sicily. It is around 25 km from the city of Ragusa.
Scicli's origins date back to 1500 BC. In 1693 this small town was destroyed by a terrible earthquake and was reconstructed further south to a truly delightful Baroque town.
There are many splendid monuments worth seeing including some rather interesting churches, such as Santa Maria la Nuova but also the XVII century Church of Sant'Ignazio. There are many 'palazzi' which deserve to be admired and marvel at including the Palazzo Beneventano, the Palazzo Spadaro and the Palazzo Fava.
Not only culture and history lovers get their money well spent around Scicli, but also beach-goers and sun worshippers as there are lovely sandy beaches between Portopalo and Scoglitti. Also in in the nature reserve of the river Irminio with a nice sandy beaches.
Scicli is a great day spent out for everyone!
