The nature reserve of Vendicari consists of march lands and is therefore flat, perfect for long walks along the nature trails. Vendicari is migrating ground for flamingos and many other birds, it boasts wonderful sandy beaches, also a gay-friendly beach (there are not many in Sicily), and an old tuna factory.
Vendicari is located south of Syracuse, cca. 40 minutes by car, and Noto, around 15 min by car, and makes a wonderful day in the nature or at the beach.
A visit is recommended for bird watchers and beach aficionados - it is only reachable by car. Due to the flat region it is a great place for easy hikes. Bring along your swimsuit, a hat, water and a picnic.
