Portopalo di Capo Passero
Sicily
The Portopalo di Capo Passero of today was founded in 1778 by the Baron Gaetano Deodato Moncada who built at his own expense about a hundred houses in the vicinity of the tuna factory. Portopalo is a village with about 3,500 inhabitants, surrounded by unspoilt nature. But it has been already inhabited in 395 BC by Phoecicians from Mothya who escaped the attack of Dionysius the Elder during the war with Carthage. The beaches of Portopalo di Capo Passero are wonderful, white and golden sand washed by a crystal clear sea in all shades of green from light turquoise to emerald.
The summer season starts in April and often lasts until late November. For your beach days you should bring a picknick, something to drink and a parasol.
