Corleone
Sicily
Corleone, nestled between two craggy rocks, has made its fame thanks to its strong links with the Mafia, Mario Puzo's book and the movie 'The Godfather'. You will be suprised how this so called 'City of One Hundred Churches' is different to the Corleone in the movies.
In the 80's and 90's Corleone was the base of one of the most violent and feared Mafia clans ever. Find out more about the Mafia in the Museo Anti-Mafia, which displays an outstanding collection of photographs, including the Mafia bosses Leggio, Riina and Provenzano, the so called ' capo di tutti capi'. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday from 8.30 - 1 pm and from 3.30 - 7 pm.
Interesting sights include the Cathedral of San Martino Vescovo dating back to 13th century, the Santuario della Madonna del Rosario, the Chiesa dell'Addolorata and the Mother's church - 'Chiesa Madre'.
