Castello Di Caccamo
Sicily
Built on the behest of the mighty Chiaramonte family on a steep rock, the Castello of Caccamo towers over a magnificient landscape. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the western terrace.
The Castle of Caccamo is the largest and one of the most prestigious castles of Sicily and is part of much of the island's history. Built in the times of the Normans, the castle has undergone several changes and renovations in the last centuries, non of which harmed, fortunately, its grandeur and beauty. Visitors can admire the hall of the theatre, the stables, the tower, the 'conspiracy room', the Hall of Armours, several gatehouses and the prison where walls are full of graffities left by the prisoners.
The Castello of Caccamo must be visited when in Palermo and the north of Sicily.
