A guided tour of Syracuse, home to the wonderful Neapolis Archaeological Park.
The Archaeological Park is a fascinating journey into the past, an ode to the greatness of ancient Greek civilization. This extraordinary site, declared a Unesco World Heritage Site, holds the evidence of more than two millennia of history. Inside are the Ear of Dionysus, a curiously named artificial cave, and the Latomie del Paradiso, limestone quarries that tell of ancient mining activity. The Greek Theater, dating back to the 5th century B.C., offers an impressive stage show, a magnificent testament to ancient Greek civilization-a well-preserved amphitheater that hosted plays by great Greek tragedians.
Just outside the ancient city walls you can admire the monumental beauty of the Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, which hides the Crypt of St. Marcianus and the Catacomb of St. John in its basement. The limestone walls form a sacred labyrinth, the central corridor of which is nearly 100 meters long.
It is recommended to bring clothing appropriate for a place of worship, comfortable shoes, a sunhat and sunscreen.
