The Balcony of Sicily - Chiaramonte Gulfi
Sicily
Chiaramonte Gulfi is called the 'Balcony of Sicily' because of its panoramic views from the Hyblean Mountains to Gela to Mount Etna. At the entrance of the city is the Sanctuary of the Madonna, immersed in a fresh pine forest, which is equipped with picknick areas for relaxing breaks and to enjoy lovely views to the sea.
At Chiaramonte Gulfi exquisite olive oils are produced and sold directly on the spot. Another main culinary feature of this scenic little town is the production of pork sausages. These and other swinish delights can be enjoyed in the restaurants of the town - the best is Ristorante Majore, where you can also buy the delicious homemade sausages.
To take full advantage of this notorious glorification of the pig, the Sausage Festival is held during the carnival period, namely the Monday.
There are also some lovely and special museums to visit.
