Riserva Naturale Saline di Priolo
Sicily
The wetland of the Nature Reserve Saline di Priolo is vital for thousands of migratory birds that annually migrate along the coasts of eastern Sicily. It is a staging area, nesting and wintering ground for a large number of bird species, both local and migrant.
The reserve and the surrounding areas hosts 237 species of birds, 80% of which are wholly or partially migratory. There were observed more than half of the bird species of Sicily and about 40% of all in Italy. The fact is remarkable compared to the limited size of the area and the location in the heart of the industrial area.
The Riserva Naturale Saline di Priolo is open all year round and offers attentive and respectful visitors more than one reason to spend a pleasant and interesting day out.
