Museo Siciliano di Arte e Tradizioni Popolari
Sicily
The Palazzo Corvaja, one of the most famous and interesting buildings in Taormina, houses the tourist office as well as a small museum - the Museo Siciliano di Arte e Tradizioni Popolari, the museum of art and traditions. On display is the estate of a local antiques dealer - mostly 18th-century oil portraits, painted glass and embroidery. There is also a small collection of the typical Sicillian handpainted carts.
The most charming pieces in the collection of the deceased dealer are the portraits of the mid-19th-century Sicilian bourgeoisie.
The museum, housed in Palazzo Corvaia, is divided into three areas: vestibule, dining hall of the fourteenth and fifteenth century. Its basic purpose is to recover and make available to the public pieces of handicrafts and artifacts that constitute a precious witness of life and popular culture of Sicily, such as wooden sculptures devotional, cribs, anthropomorphic pottery, elaborate pieces of Sicilian carts
