Hike up in spring to Monte Venere, it is worth the effort. You will be rewarded with stunning views of the whole island.
A lovely walk , if you are around Taormina, is the Castelmola walk which leads to the lovely village of Castelmola perched on the top of a craggy rock like an eagle's nest high above the stunning beauty of Taormina.
Start from via Circonvallazione where you take the winding road 'Salita Castello ' to the top of Monte Tauro where one can enjoy the most stunning panoramic views. The sunsets are particularly breathtaking and sort of magical.
If you don't fancy the walk, but still want to discover this tiny hill village which proves to be a hit with tourists, you can jump on the bus, which will take you just below the main square. There are various gift and souvenir shops for browsing, bars and restaurants serving the sweet local almond wine ( Vino alla Mandorla) and remains of a medieval castle waiting to be explored.
