Sailing Sicily

Numerous boats are coming hetween spring and autumn to Sicily - beside the thousands of yachts and boats moored all year round.

Sicily and its islands are a wonderful place for sailing, swimming, snorkelling and diving and, of course, sightseeing. Many ports are close to town centres so that you can start your sightseeing tours on foot, such as Syracuse, Catania, Trapani and Cefalù.

The Marina di Ragusa is a great starting point for visiting the beautiful Baroque towns of Modica, Scicli, Ragusa and also perfect for wandering in the footsteps of Commissario Montalbano as many shooting places of the detective series are in Ragusa and surroundings. Marina di Ragusa is also good for wintering.

The west of Sicily is due to its wind conditions one of the best areas for sailing -in 2005 the Louis Vuitton Cup took place in Trapani. The Egadi Islands and Pantelleria are unspoilt spots to be discovered. By the way, the touristic port of Trapani is sailor's dream. And from here you can easily visit Trapani's historical centre on foot and hire a car and explore all the interesting sites of Sicily's west, such as Segesta, Erice, the Parco dello Zingaro, Marsala, Selinunte and the lagoon nature reserve with its salt marshes. To Palermo the car ride takes about one hour 15 minutes, to Monreale one hour and a half.

Syracuse is a good solution for exploring Sicily's south, and Catania features several small harbours where you can dock.

Marina di Riposto comes recommended for all sailors who are looking for a nice place to stay and meanwhile explore the Mount Etna region, Catania and Taormina. Ash-rains may land on youy nice yacht from time to time.
