Piano Battaglia

Sicily

In summer you should hike from Castelbuono to Piano Battaglia. Think beautiful landscapes, lush green, stunning views and rare plants.

Piano Battaglia can be found in less than hour from Palermo in the Madonie Mountains at an altitude of 1.600 meters. It can be also reached by foot from charming Castelbuono. The highest peak is the Pizzo Carbonara with 1.979 m.

Piano Battaglia doesn't have the typical Sicilian look, it actually has the Swiss feel to it. Think chalets, alpine churches, ski runs, lifts, and snow, snow, snow...There are a number of places to rent your skiing equipment. Piano Battaglia features three drag lifts and one chairlift.

Ski enthusiasts should try the 3 kilometers long tracks on the north slopes of the Monte Mufara which serves all kind of skiers. If you are unlucky and there aren't the best conditions for skiing, don't worry, as you can hike ( try the walk from Piano Battaglia to Pizzo Carbonara ca. 5 hours there and back), go paragliding and even mountain biking on the snow.
