Riserve Naturali di Preola e Gorghi Tondi

The Natural Reserve of Preola and Gorghi Tondi was established in 1998 and is managed by the WWF.
It is located in the area of Mazara del Vallo and consists of the four karst lakes Preola, Gorgo Alto, Gorgo Medio e Gorgo Basso. Karst lakes typically have a low vegetation, the flora here consists of calliprina oaks, dwarf palms and mastic. The lakes serve as shelter for migratory birds and domestic bird species. Ornithologists and other bird fans can see wild ducks, herons, warblers, birds of prey, coots, grebes, herons, and nightingales. Other animals are terrapins and lizards.
Visitors will find tow prepared paths, one leads to the Preola lake, the other to the Gorgo Basso lake.
