Museo del Grano - Museum of the Grain
Sicily
The museum building of the early twentieth century has hosted in the past the Agricultural Cooperative 'The Ceres', founded in 1910 by the Cavaliere (Knigth) Nicolò Di Gregorio and some labourers, to ensure farmers parcels of land with contracts more equitable and to learn and apply innovative farming techniques. The Museum of the Grain is a sign of the importance of the cooperative in the development of local agriculture .
The museum represents customs, usages, and the work of the peasant community of Raddusa offering visitors a reconstruction of ancient environments. Tools used by the farmers and old local customs are also available through an audio path, visual and explanatory panels. There has been rebuilt an old farmhouse with a bedroom of the '30s, a stone oven and a pantry, the latter used to preserve wooden barrels, flasks and carboys. On display are also old tools and farm machinery.
