Museums & Galleries in Sicily
A visit to the Regional Archaeological Museum of Agrigento is important for understanding the history of the city of Agrigento and its territory.
The museum contains an outstanding collection of superbly painted vases, spanning the 6th to 3rd centuries BC -some are Attic, but many from Agrigento itself. Then there is a telamon stacked up against one wall. This 25-foot giant used to be part of the temple's decoration. Look also for the 2nd-century BC alabaster sarcophagus of a child, carved with happy childhood moments and a touching death scene.
Across the road from the museum lies the Insula Romana, the remains of the Roman-era of Agrigento.
Cost: € 10, combined ticket incl. Valley of the Temples: € 15 (2013).
