Castello di Calatabiano
Sicily
The Castle of Calatabiano is situated high on a rock. To get on the top use the panoramic lift which is also bit of adrenaline along with great panoramic views of the bay of Giardini-Naxos and Taormina.
The name Calatabiano is of Arabic origin, but the construction and some findings suggest that the castle could be much older. Visitors can admire the charming 'Cruyllas room', peak into the chapel, or just wander around, explore and enjoy the splendid views. Browse through the bookshop or stop off for a cup of coffee in the café.
Throughout the year several events take place in the castle, such as tastings, awards, concerts, exhibitions and much more. For school classes there are a didactic area, guided tours and special events.
Entrance fee (2013): € 5, including lift € 7. There are reduced prices for kids and EU citizens under 18 and over 65.
