Casa Museo Antonino Uccello
Sicily
Antonino Uccello, creator of the 'Casa museo', was a poet and anthropologist. He was born in Canicattini Bagni (Siracusa) in 1922.
Uccello focused his attention on setting up environmentally-consistent scenes, in order to show the visitor the way the exhibited items were used. The museum lies in a wing of Palazzo Ferla. Uccello re-created the environments of a rural house typical of Monti Iblei, in which two worlds, different in their appearances, yet close in their links, often coexisted at the same time. On the ground floor there are rooms for the massaro, the landowners trustworthy man. He looked after the administration of the land, the animals, the crops and the relationships with tenants. On the first floor there are the owners rooms, which are currently used as offices and storage area.
