I Cuochini - Antica Rosticceria Palermitana
Sicily
I Cuochini opens for breakfast, a coffee and croissant, and - swooosh, off are the Palermitans for work. For a quick bite around midday they offer typical Palermitan street food, small arancini (stuffed rice balls), panzerotti, donuts, salty pastries, timbales, milk nuggets, small sandwiches with fritters (the famous pane e panelle), and custom casseroles of rice, pasta and pies.
Passing through the gate you will find yourself in a quiet courtyard, leaving behind the chaos of the city. You come in and start queuing up in front of a bare counter. If you decide to eat on the spot you eat standing where you can find a hole, there is no place to sit.
I Cuochini is not a touristic place. It is cheap and provides tasty food. One rustic mignon is better the other.
Tricky to find, but your lunch will remain a pleasant memory.
