Join us for an immersive experience, taking in the sights and sounds of the ancient Kalsa neighborhood, where Italy's most famous anti-mafia heroes Falcone and Borsellino were born and raised. We will visit the real locations where mafia crimes took place in Kalsa and key sites which are part of Palermo's anti-mafia movement's urban recuperation and renewal. The tour is 1.6 km or 1 mile, mostly shaded. There is a cafe stop midway through, refreshments are optional. The value of this tour is in its powerful and inspiring storytelling, offering a deep dive into the lives of the extraordinary individuals and organizations that fought and continue to fight against the mafia. This tour includes visits to 10 important sites, including three major crime sites. During this tour you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about ongoing efforts in Sicily’s fight against organized crime. This historical educational tour provides an overview of the history of Cosa Nostra, including its actual origins, contrasted with the myths about it. You will come away from this tour with a greater appreciation of authentic Sicilian culture and an understanding of how the Cosa Nostra was an aberration, one with shallow historical roots, uncharacteristic of this beautiful, courageous, and resilient little island.
