Description

This is not a sightseeing walk on Etna. It is a real hiking day for fit, confident hikers who want to go where the crowds don’t. Most tours stop at a viewpoint over Valle del Bove. We do the opposite: we descend inside it. After a steep first climb, the valley suddenly opens beneath us. Then comes one of the most exciting moments of the day: a 200-meter descent on soft volcanic ash in about 3 thrilling minutes. Run, slide, laugh — and when you stop and look up, you are no longer watching Valle del Bove. You are standing inside it. From there, we hike across a silent volcanic landscape where we normally meet no other groups. No queues, no crowded stops, no long procession of tourists walking one behind another. With a maximum of only 7 guests, there is space to move, stop, ask questions, enjoy the silence and connect with Etna. We pause face-to-face with the Southeast Crater, explore 2 lava caves with helmets and headlamps, and discover how eruptions created the landscape beneath our feet. After lunch comes the real test: the steep Canalone dei Faggi. We climb slowly out of Valle del Bove, leaving the valley behind us before beginning the long descent toward Piano del Vescovo. This is also what makes our route different: it is not a loop back to the same parking place. We work with 2 guides. One stays with you throughout the hike, while the second handles the vehicle and meets us at the end. That means I can focus entirely on the group instead of worrying about driving. Helmet, headlamp, trekking poles, gaiters and other essential gear are provided. Trekking shoes can also be borrowed free of charge on request. This may be a new independent project, but Etna is not new to me. I have spent years guiding people across its lava, ash and trails. Now I want to offer the kind of Etna day I believe in most: small group, real hiking, no crowds, strong human connection and a route you will remember. And yes — when our driver finds us at the end, you may have earned the best beer of your life.
