Description
The tour starts in Piano Provenzana on Mount Etna's north side. Board a comfortable 4x4 bus and travel along unpaved roads to the Pizzi Deneri astrophysical observatory, located at 2810 meters above sea level.
At 2805 meters, take a short trek up to approximately 2865 meters, depending on volcanic activity. From this vantage point, observe the Valle del Bove beneath the northeast crater and take in panoramic views of the Sicilian coast.
Your certified volcanologist guide will provide detailed information about the volcano throughout the trek. After descending by bus to 2200 meters, complete a 20-minute hike to the edge of the crater created by the 2002 eruption.
The tour concludes with a 4x4 bus ride back to Piano Provenzana.
