Description
Begin your day by meeting your guide in Catania at your accommodation or another arranged location. Travel by air-conditioned van to Mount Etna’s Sartorius craters or the 2002 crater on the northeast side.
Explore volcanic landscapes including ancient woodlands, extinct craters, and lava fields. See lava deserts, ash deposits, unique formations, and eruption traces while ascending to 2000 meters altitude.
Next, put on helmets and lamps to enter a volcanic cave like Grotta del Ladroni or Grotta Cassone. Then stop at a mountain winery for a traditional Sicilian lunch served indoors or outdoors depending on weather. The meal includes an appetizer, first course, water, and local wine.
Continue to the Alcantara Gorges, formed thousands of years ago by lava flows altering the riverbed. Walk along the scenic Alcantara River to observe basalt columns and water pools.
