Discover the Alcantara Gorges of San Cataldo, a natural area of great interest linked to the volcanic territory of Etna and the presence of the Alcantara River. Explore the park and discover the Grotta dei Cento Cavalli, an ancient and imposing volcanic cavity, characterized by its large size and considered one of the most important caves in the area. See an ancient restored mill, a testament to the rural activities and historical use of the Alcantara waters by local communities. Reach the Alcantara River and access a nature trail that crosses several characteristic places. Among these is the Grotta dell’Eremita, another ancient volcanic formation set in the valley landscape. Continue along the path to reach the Salto di Cupido, a particular waterfall linked to ancient works created for the management and channeling of water intended for irrigation of the land. Follow the path along the river and immerse yourself in the landscape of the Alcantara, among vegetation, volcanic rock, water, and evidence of ancient human activity. Finally, reach the Alcantara Gorges of San Cataldo, where the action of water over time has shaped the ancient volcanic rocks, creating a particularly evocative natural setting with wonderful waterfall.
