Description

Reach the summit of Mount Etna in complete safety accompanied by authorized mountain and volcano guides for a unique experience on Europe's highest active volcano. Depart from the Rifugio Sapienza area, at an altitude of approximately 1,900 meters, and take the cable car that will take you to an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters. The trek begins by crossing the sites of the most recent and important eruptions until you reach the highest point allowed by current regulations, which are issued based on volcanic risk levels and are constantly changing. After a 30-minute break to eat something, admire the surrounding landscape, and take some photos, we will climb the Barbagallo craters (erupted in 2002/03), descend on their eastern side, and head towards the spectacular Valle del Bove, which is an ancient caldera that, as recent studies have shown, was formed about 9,000 years ago by the collapse of Etna's old eruptive centers. We will then continue south until we reach the base of the crater that formed during the great eruption of 2001. After crossing this, we will head towards the cable car that will take us back to the starting point.
