Description

Join us for an unforgettable trekking adventure on the iconic Mount Etna, guided by an experienced naturalistic guide who will reveal the secrets of Europe’s most active volcano. This is more than a simple hike — it’s an immersive journey through breathtaking volcanic landscapes, fascinating local history, and extraordinary natural wonders. All necessary trekking equipment is provided for your comfort and safety. Your experience begins in the historic center of Catania, where you’ll set off towards Mount Etna. Along the way, we’ll make a brief stop in the charming town of Trecastagni, giving you the opportunity to pick up water and sandwich for lunch, enjoy a quick coffee, and soak in the small-town atmosphere before the adventure begins. The trek starts at an altitude of 1,850 meters, venturing off the usual tourist paths to reach the Silvestri Craters — striking volcanic formations created by past eruptions — and the impressive 2001 lava flow. Gradually climbing up to 2,400 meters, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding lunar-like terrain. From here, we make our way to the Bove Valley, a spectacular and vast natural amphitheater of black lava beaches, formed thousands of years ago by a massive volcanic collapse. Walking along its rugged edges offers an awe-inspiring perspective of Etna’s immense power and geological history. We’ll pause for a well-deserved lunch break at 2,400 meters, where you can enjoy your meal while gazing out over the Valle del Bove, the active southeastern crater, and the glittering Ionian coastline stretching far into the distance. This combination of raw volcanic power and serene beauty makes for a truly unique setting. After lunch, the adventure continues with a fun descent through the “lava sand beaches” — a soft, steep, and exhilarating section where every step feels like a playful slide down the mountain’s volcanic ash slopes. We’ll also take time to explore a fascinating lava flow cave, formed when molten rock carved its way underground, leaving behind a hidden world of cooled basalt. The day winds down with a relaxing break at a local bar, where you can refresh and reflect on the day’s highlights before returning to the meeting point in Catania’s city center. By the end of this journey, you’ll have not only walked on one of the world’s most famous volcanoes but also experienced its living soul, its natural beauty, and its dramatic history in a way that few visitors ever do.
