Description
Etna2002Cave – Fede and Etna, Monti Sartorius or the Craters of 2002, lava cave and food tasting of typical products
Discover one of the most fascinating slopes of Mount Etna on a hike that combines nature, geology, history and the authentic flavors of Sicily. The cool slope of Etna Nord, where the tourist and ski resort of Piano Provenzana is located. An experience suitable for those who want to get to know the volcano up close, accompanied by a nature guide who will lead you along trails immersed in the woods, among ancient lava flows and breathtaking views.
The itinerary begins with a first stop to visit the small votive church of the 'Heart of Jesus' in the area of the village of Fornazzo, my father's native village and a hamlet of the municipality of Milo (CT). Here, the uniqueness and extraordinary location of this place will be described, a point where multiple prodigious phenomena have occurred in the past.
We continue on to discover a fascinating cave of a lava slide. And only after putting on a protective helmet and a flashlight will we enter this underground environment to enjoy a fascinating experience and get up close to one of Etna's most characteristic volcanic phenomena. The visit will allow you to observe the shapes created by the lava as it cooled and to discover how these natural cavities represent a valuable record of the volcano's eruptive activity.
We will continue the tour to discover one of Etna's more than 200 monogenic lateral craters. Here the route can be adapted to your specific requests and abilities. Along the way, you can get a close-up view of the different types of lava, learn how volcanic cones were formed, and discover how time has transformed a seemingly hostile landscape into an environment full of life.
During the hike, you will discover the geological history of Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, and gain an understanding of the phenomena that have shaped this area over millennia.
We will end the hike right in the eruptive theater of the eruption called 'perfect', the 2002 eruption, and a pleasant moment dedicated to the flavors of the area awaits us with a food tasting of the artisanal products of Etna and Sicily.
This experience is ideal for families, couples, groups of friends, and trekking enthusiasts who want to experience Mount Etna in an authentic way, away from the most crowded routes. Each step will be a journey through unique landscapes, fascinating tales, and centuries-old traditions, offering emotions that will remain etched in your memory well beyond the end of the hike.
