Description
Discover the Roman Villa Romana del Casale, a well-preserved site believed to have belonged to Valerio Massimiano, a powerful Roman patrician. Enjoy a guided tour through 48 rooms decorated with exceptional mosaics depicting daily life, heroes, deities, hunting scenes, and games from the Roman Empire.
Walk on the peristyle floor covered entirely with mosaics featuring European and African animals. Stroll through the garden with its large fountain comprising three marble-covered pools and mosaic interiors. Enter the Great Hall Corridor, with two columns featuring female figures symbolizing two provinces of the empire.
Visit the oval-shaped triclinium (dining room) and private domestic quarters. View the room showing 10 girls in bikinis engaged in sports such as discus throwing, ball games, weight exercises, and cross country running.
Marvel at the Basilica with its polychrome marble floors, then step inside a bedroom decorated with theatrical mask mosaics and a central medallion depicting lovers. Explore the domus baths including the Frigidarium and Tepidarium. The tour concludes in the Circus Hall, formerly a gym, featuring a mosaic reproduction of Rome’s Circo Massimo.
