Description
The tour starts at the Valley of the Temples, located just outside Agrigento. This archaeological site includes eight temples and various ruins built between 510 BC and 430 BC. Key temples include the Temple of Concordia, Temple of Heracles, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Temple of Castor and Pollux, Temple of Hephaestos, Temple of Demeter, and Temple of Asclepius, mostly clustered on rocky crests south of Agrigento.
Your second destination is Piazza Armerina, situated 721 meters above sea level in inland Sicily. Here you can visit the Villa Romana del Casale, a Roman villa built in the 4th century AD, famous for its exceptionally well-preserved mosaics. These mosaics depict mythological myths, daily life, and Homeric scenes, including the notable panel of women exercising in ancient bikinis. The mosaics were likely made by North African artisans.
