Description
The journey between the flavors, the aromas and the gastronomic traditions of Catania starts at the 4 Canti. This is the historical crossroads of the city between Via Etnea and Via di Sangiuliano, the four corners from which rise palaces belonging to the noble families of Catania. You will continue on Via Etnea, the main street of Catania, to reach Piazza Duomo and admire the wonderful cathedral, the famous fountain of the elephant o liotru, a symbol of the city, and the Amenano fountain where you arrive at the fish market. Here Salvo will await you and carefully prepare, according to family tradition, cold cuts and cheese appetizers combined with excellent house wine. After a stroll through the fish market, amongst the fresh fish stands, another stop will allow a tasting of anchovies, tomatoes and garlic. Leaving the fish market you will continue to the baroque Via dei Crociferi, a small jewel of art with its several churches, many times immortalized by the greatest Italian filmmakers. You will then reach Via Manzoni and Piazza Stesicoro, where you will find the second biggest Roman Amphitheater in Italy and where you can still admire its ruins. Continuing along Via Etnea, its name comes from the volcano Etna, and visible from the beginning to the end of the boulevard, you arrive at Via Pacini, a small road. This is where there is a bakery that for generations prepares the best Arancini and Cipolline of all the city. Once this tasting is over and crossing the characteristic market of Fera o Luni, you will arrive at Piazza Turi Ferro. At one of the traditional kiosks for a delicious lemon selz, a typically and refreshingly summer drink, essential to digest what you just ate. Last stop will be Piazza Università with the magnificent Palazzo of the Univerity built around 1696, after the destruction led by the terrible earthquake of 1693. Here you will taste the best Granita and Brioche of Catania in one of the historical bars of the city.Includes
