Your trip begins in Castiglione di Sicilia
Starting from the base located in the area of Castiglione di Sicilia, you will be accompanied by one of our expert equestrian tour leaders along country trails that will take you directly to the Alcantara River. The route is entirely within the park, among natural and wild areas of great environmental and scenic interest, where nature reigns supreme and offers authentic emotions at every step.
Cross the river and discover fascinating scenery
During the trekking, you will cross the course of the Alcantara several times (depending on the season), discovering its ever-changing landscapes and the evocative nuances created by the contrast between the black basalt and the lush vegetation. Over time, the water has shaped rocks and canyons, creating landscapes of extraordinary beauty that you can only fully appreciate from horseback.
The Byzantine Cuba: a work of art in the desert
One of the most evocative moments of the tour is a visit to the Byzantine Cuba, a small church made of lava stone and bricks dating back to the 6th–7th century. This rare example of Byzantine architecture in Sicily, with its Greek cross shape and characteristic Oriental-style domes, suddenly emerges among the fields like a 'cathedral in the desert'.
