Description
Daily Excursions from Catania Private tour of Agrigento and Piazza Armerina in English, Spanish, and Italian. Departure at 8:30 AM from Catania, with prior pickup from your hotel. If the hotel is located in a restricted traffic area, we will meet at the nearest meeting point. Our destination will be the Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, a unique and well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage site. It features the remains of ten Doric temples, built as a tribute to Zeus following the victory over the Carthaginians. Among these, the most famous is the 'Temple of Concordia.' Additionally, there are three sanctuaries, a concentration of necropolises, fortifications, and two Agoras. The walking route inside the Valley is approximately two kilometers long. The entrance ticket to the Valley and the choice of a guide will be purchased individually. After visiting the Temples, we will take a short break to taste local street food before continuing to our next destination, the 'Villa del Casale' in Piazza Armerina, discovered only in 1950. After purchasing the entrance ticket, we can admire the noble villa with its pavilion or nucleus layout and the polychrome mosaics from the 3rd and 4th centuries, possibly created by North African artists. This mosaic treasure, depicting mythological scenes of hunting, leisure, domestic life, flora, fauna, and more, is a marvelous fresco of daily life at that time. At the end of the visit, we will return to Catania. The tour lasts approximately 9 hours.Includes
